Don't be a Loonatic

Only the 3 Ps (pee, poo and toilet paper) should ever be flushed down your loo!

If unsuitable items do make it to the sewage treatment plant, they reduce treatment efficiency, affecting the costs of sewage treatment and potentially the health of waterways.

Please DO NOT put any of these items down your loo, sink or drain:

  • Wet wipes
  • Tampons and sanitary pads
  • Condoms
  • Cotton buds
  • Food scraps
  • Paper towel
  • Nappies
  • Needles
  • Medication
  • Plastics and food stickers.

Where would you be without a loo?

Around 2.3 billion people in the world, don’t have access to a safe, clean toilet. That means 40% of the world’s population are disposing of their waste in open spaces, contaminating water, food sources and living spaces.

While we may take our humble loo for granted, without it millions of people suffer from infectious diseases, polluted environments and unhealthy waterways.

The flush toilet has been heralded as saving more lives than any other invention. In the UK, the expansion of toilets in the 1880s contributed to a 15 year increase in life expectancy over the following four decades (Source: WaterAid).
