The Unitywater Laboratory provides a range of tests and services for our residential customers. The Unitywater Laboratory holds NATA accreditation for a range of chemical, microbiological and sampling services

  Sewage testing

Domestic waste-water treatment systems.

  • Laboratory analysis is available to assist you with testing requirements of the Queensland Plumbing and Wastewater Code
  • Contact your Regional Council to obtain further advice on local guidelines.

  Water testing

Bores

  • Testing can be undertaken to check for performance against NHMRC Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
  • Standard testing of Bore Water used for drinking and domestic use includes (but is not restricted to): E. coli, Total coliforms, pH, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, Aluminium, Iron, Manganese, and Hardness.

Dams

  • Testing can be undertaken to check for performance against NHMRC Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and irrigation guidelines.
  • Standard testing of Dam Water used for drinking and domestic use includes (but is not restricted to): E. coli, Total coliforms pH, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, Aluminium, Iron, Manganese, Ammonia, and Nitrogen oxides.

Non-reticulated drinking water (i.e. not town water)

  • Testing can be undertaken to check for performance against NHMRC Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
  • Standard testing for drinking and domestic use includes (but is not restricted to): E. coli, Total coliforms, pH, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, Alkalinity, Aluminium, Copper, Iron, Nickel, Lead, and Zinc

Rainwater tanks

  • The Australian Health Council have published Guidance on Use of Rainwater Tanks.
  • Standard testing of Rainwater Tanks used for drinking and domestic use includes (but is not restricted to): E.coli, Total coliforms, pH, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, Alkalinity, Aluminium, Copper, Iron, Nickel, Lead, and Zinc.
  • Unitywater does not provide specialised protozoan analysis (e.g. Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia cysts or Cryptosporidium oocysts as these tests are undertaken by only a few laboratories in Australia. If your query regards one of these specialised analyses, please contact your local health authority.

Swimming pools

  • Queensland Health published the Swimming and Spa Pool Water Quality and Operational Guidelines in 2004. These guidelines provide advice and water quality standards for pool managers, as well as protocols for dealing with incidents such as faecal accidents or dealing with pool water that has been contaminated with Cryptosporidium.
  • These guidelines generally apply to commercial swimming pool operators but contain useful information regarding the maintenance of swimming pools to reduce contamination.
