Population and service figures

  • Unitywater began operations on 1 July 2010 and currently employs 708 full-time equivalent employees. 
  • Unitywater currently operates in one of the fastest growing regions of Australia, providing essential water supply and sewerage services to 16% of Queensland’s population.
  • During 2015-16, we supplied more than 724,626 people across 5223 kilometres with sewerage and water services. 
  • Our customers include 287,994 residential properties and 16,968 commercial and industrial enterprises.
  • Unitywater services:
    • 318,007 total customer accounts (as of 30 June 2016). 
    • Approximately  3471 trade waste customers* (*customers that release non-household waste into the sewerage network) 
    • Approximately 9711 sundry customers* (*includes metered hydrant standpipes, fixed fill standpipes, laboratory testing charges, damage to Unitywater infrastructure, property leases, plus miscellaneous charges

Unitywater assets

  • Unitywater operates and maintains more than $3.2 billion of essential service infrastructure, supplying water and sewerage services to residential and business customers. This includes:
    • 304,962 water connections 
    • 5836 km of water mains pipes 
    • 111 water reservoirs 
    • 89 water pump stations 
    • 57,986 hydrants 
    • 98 km of recycled water mains pipes 
    • 12 recycled water plants 
    • 272,207 sewerage connections 
    • 5601 km of sewer mains pipes 
    • 781 sewage pump stations 
    • 17 sewage treatment plants.

Investment figures

  • During the 2015-16 year, we invested $35.8 million in water supply infrastructure and $62.4 million in sewerage infrastructure. 
  • Unitywater is investing approximately $680 million in water supply and sewerage infrastructure for our community in 2013/14 – 2017/18.
